Kevin Blair is a PGY3 general surgery resident at UCLA, in the first of two dedicated research years. He attended college at Vanderbilt University, and medical school at Northwestern University. While in medical school, he developed a research interest in improving access to surgical and trauma care in low- and middle-income countries, and spent time in Bolivia working on several projects with that focus. Additionally, Kevin has an interest in violence and injury prevention, and, in addition to his work with SAPHIR, is working on a violence prevention project in San Salvador, El Salvador. Kevin is the first general surgery resident to be a SAPHIR fellow, and is partnering with a new site in Bogotá, Colombia where he plans to develop a project which explores an HIV prevention topic related to general surgery.
Research Areas:
1) PrEP knowledge and acceptability among Latin American users of a social network app;
2) Screening for and management of colorectal cancer among people living with HIV in Bogota, Colombia.
