Silvia Montano, MD, MPH, (Faculty Mentor) is Director of the STI Division of the Bacteriology Program at NMRCD. Dr. Montano’s research includes surveillance of molecular genotypes of HIV-1 in Latin America through a consortium of 16 research centers in South and Central America. In addition, she has collaborated with UCLA and UPCH on studies of HIV transmission in high risk populations, and of new technologies for the diagnosis of acute and established HIV infection in routine counseling and testing populations.
